Remodeling can be a disruptive process, but it doesn’t have to turn your life upside-down. We’re easy to get along with and we understand that our job can cause you stress. Today we’d like to give you tips on how you can reduce that stress, keep on living your normal life, and “survive” a kitchen remodeling job.

Be Vocal: Talk to Us, Tell Us Your Needs and Ask About Your Project

We love communication, and the best kitchen redesigns come from the customers that give us the most information to work with. Not only do we want your creative input going into the design process, we want to know what you’re thinking while the renovation is actually happening. You should feel free to share your concerns, your praises and your questions with your kitchen designer.

We will happily walk you through the remodeling schedule and explain each step of the process before it happens. If we’re going to make your kitchen inaccessible, you absolutely have a right to know when you’ll be able to use it again. In an effort to give enough time to prepare for the project to begin, not only will it be at least one weeks’ notice but it will also be a mutually agreed upon start date.

Set Up A Temp Kitchen, Prepare in Advance, and Know Your Getaways

A temporary kitchen setup somewhere else in your house is a great way to keep your kitchen in working order while it’s being fully renovated. You might make cooking a centerpiece of your living room, or move appliances off to a side room just to get them out of the way. Be sure your temporary kitchen is safe, and don’t be afraid to try new recipes and experiment with your limited, unusual situation. Grilling outdoors is a great solution as a temporary kitchen!

Preparing food far in advance and freezing it in your refrigerator is also an excellent idea. If you’ve got a fridge in use, chances are it will stay plugged in and operational even if it has to be removed from the kitchen. Take advantage of that and prepare meals and ingredients in advance, store them, then take them out later.

If all else fails, keep places in mind that you can escape to when you just can’t take the construction process anymore. We understand that kitchen renovations can get tiring but remember it’s only temporary and soon you will have a beautiful new kitchen. Having somewhere to escape to outside the home can be an excellent opportunity for yourself and your family.

Start Clipping Coupons Before The Job, and Get In Touch with Neighbors

Sometimes your kitchen may be limited in use during your renovation. That doesn’t mean that you’ll go hungry, and you certainly don’t have to break the bank to stay adequately fed while your renovation takes place. We will always try to make sure you can at least use parts of your kitchen throughout the entire process, but sometimes you just won’t want to try to make something work out of your limited kitchen options.

Coupons and special offers at local restaurants will help you offset the cost of eating out while your kitchen isn’t fully-functional due to work. You can also contact friends, family, coworkers and neighbors and offer to cook for everyone if you can borrow their kitchen in exchange. Many homeowners don’t realize that you don’t lose your kitchen during a remodeling job: you gain the opportunity to strengthen friendships, create new ones, and share the hassle of cooking. Kitchen sharing may even become a favorite activity long after your remodel is done!

Patience is a Virtue

More than anything else, you’ve got to be patient with your kitchen remodel. Even if it looks like a mess during the renovation, you can sleep well knowing that your dream kitchen will soon be complete, and you’ll be free from the noise and mess for a long time.

We do our best to respect your space and your home, and we are happy to work with you through every step of the kitchen remodeling process. Your patience and your hospitality is something we value more than any fees or contracts, and we consider our remodeling jobs a success only when you’re absolutely happy with it.

We hope that this survival guide will help you keep a fairly normal life in tact while we remodel your kitchen. If you’re in the market for a bath or kitchen renovation and you want designers that love their jobs, and love helping you love your home more, give us a call today.
