Inset and framed cabinetry are fairly similar. Framed cabinets involve a face frame on the front of the cabinet, which essentially means that the cabinet has a “fourth side.” This means that the cabinet itself is stronger, but also that the cabinet does not have the same streamlined look that other cabinets might have. Framed cabinets also imply that the door hinges attach to the face frame. Inset cabinetry is a special kind of framed cabinet, where the door to the cabinet sits flush inside the frame. Finally, frameless kitchen cabinets allow full access to the cabinet, allowing for a cleaner and more streamlined look to the cabinet with no applied face frame.Benefits of Frameless Cabinets
There are a number of advantages to using frameless cabinets. Firstly, the aforementioned sleeker look is one of the most considered ones, but there are others. Because the door and drawer margins to this type of cabinet are no more than ¼ inch and can be as small as 1/8 inch, you are allowed infinite customizability.Additionally, because there is no frame laid on top of the cabinet box, there is nothing to interfere with the interior storage to the cabinet itself. Though a framed cabinet is known to be sturdy, it does mean that accessing the interior of the cabinet is limited. For example, there is sometimes a vertical stile or partition that can make it more difficult to insert a full sized plate or other dishware without having to turn your items or maneuver them at an angle, creating more risk for breakage.
When you go with frameless kitchen cabinets, there is also the advantage of having much more storage space. This is because the drawer box is able to be larger than it normally would because no frame is in the way, taking up space that could otherwise be used for storage.
Finally, frameless cabinets simply look nicer and much cleaner because there is no visible applied face frame from the side view. All of the bulk from framed cabinets is virtually nonexistent when you make the change to frameless cabinets.
