Custom Cabinetry Highland Park: Which Cabinet Design is Right for You?

Custom Cabinets, Highland ParkThere are a wide range of cabinet design options out there and each of them has their own place in various kitchen design styles. For example, you'll rarely see a glossy, exotic wood veneer in a traditional country kitchen, nor will you often come across white raised panel cabinets in a contemporary kitchen design. If you're deciding what custom cabinetry style will suit your kitchen remodel, the following guidelines can help.

Which Highland Park Custom Cabinetry is Right for Your Kitchen Remodel?

Typically, interior designs are designated by one of three categories: contemporary, transitional and traditional. The majority of the designs we create for clients fall into the transitional category because most people like a little of this and a little of that. Either way, certain cabinet door styles lend themselves to one of the three options.

Custom Cabinetry for the Contemporary Kitchen

A contemporary kitchen is designed around the principles of clean lines, efficient function, and a less-is-more attitude. For this reason, we often see contemporary kitchens with frameless cabinets and flat panel doors, which yield a cleaner aesthetic. Examples of this would include:

  • Exotic wood veneers. Often, people think a contemporary kitchen means "cold and austere". That's not the case. Exotic wood veneers are a great way to add the warmth of natural wood but with a completely modern look.

  • Flat panel doors. As mentioned above, most of our clients when selecting a contemporary kitchen design opt for flat panel doors, for the uniform look they provide.

  • High Gloss finish. Select any wood specie or paint color and kick it up a notch by making it a high gloss or laquered finish.

Custom Cabinetry for Transitional Designs

For a transitional kitchen design, almost anything goes. You'll often see traditional raised panel doors paired with sleek countertops, appliances and accents. In this kitchen, the traditional kitchen has a modern twist because the cabinets are painted black. The only cabinets that don't always work in a transitional design are high-gloss, frameless slab-style doors because that look is pretty stylized, practically screaming, "Contemporary!"

Custom Kitchen Cabinetry for a Traditional Kitchen

A traditional design is all about the embellishments, including the woodwork adornments on cabinet doors.

Raised panel doors. Typically, a traditionalist will gravitate towards cabinets with raised panel doors, and even the hardware will have an embellished, antique look.

Flat panel doors. Flat panel doors can also work for a traditional design but you will usually see more decorative versions and the rest of the kitchen's colors, design choices and accents will fit a traditional motif.

Every Kitchen Design Can Benefit from Accent Doors

Don't forget to consider how accent door panels can enhance your kitchen design. Whether you opt for contemporary, transitional, or traditional designs, accent cabinets can be used on the upper-levels, flanking each side of your range hood, or interspersed here and there to add a little extra interest.
