Highland Park Bathroom Remodeling TrendsAs you have probably read in previous posts, Kitchens & Baths Unlimited has been designing and remodeling bathrooms of all sizes and shapes in Highland Park for over 30 years.  Our professional design team knows what’s hot and what’s not. What’s a smart choice and what to stay away from.

Often the questions of resale and property value come into play when remodeling any space. Knowing Highland Park inside and out, we can speak from firsthand experience about today’s trends and what is here to stay. Often homeowners are searching for classic selections that will withstand the test of time.

Popular and timeless

White is definitely hot and trendy right now.  White is always a safe selection and very versatile when it comes to incorporating other colors and textures. The desire nowadays is for a bright, refreshing spa-like feel. Therefore keeping material selections neutral and natural are foundational. You can’t go wrong with these selections and it appeals to the masses.  White and neutrals have always been dominate and popular in bathrooms and our crystal ball says it will be around for the long haul.

Tub or shower

The request for a shower ranks at the top of the list with most homeowner’s in Highland Park. There is always the concern that eliminating a tub will be detrimental when it comes time to sell. Our experience tells us the opposite assuming one tub remains somewhere in the house.  Updated bathrooms with large showers are requested by homeowners approximately 80% of the time when creating a new bathroom design. The bigger the shower, the better.

Showers without doors

Bathroom Remodeling - Shower without doorAnother popular request is a shower without a door. The attraction to this design is not only the look, but the low maintenance. This eliminates the need to squeegee or clean the glass after every shower. However, mid-westerners beware in the winter months as it can get a little chilly as the heat is not being contained and therefore escaping into the rest of the bathroom. Some other items to consider when considering a walk-in shower are drainage and space availability. The effective walk-in shower requires a spacious bathroom. The overspray is inevitable and therefore a large shower with a curved or angled wall to contain the majority of the water is ideal. The drainage is where a homeowner will benefit by hiring a professional.  We require ¼” of pitch or slope per every foot. In addition, the drain either needs to be in the center of the shower or on the farthest wall away from the entry. The idea is to keep as much of the water as possible in the shower rather than it escaping out onto the bathroom floor.
