Brainstorming is one of the first step in any bathroom remodel, and that includes making a list of Chicago bath design ideas. When clients consult with us, we ask them to separate their must-haves from their wants. That way, if budget issues arise, we've established the true priorities.
Did These Must-Haves Make Your List of Chicago Bath Design Ideas?
Recently, the Research Institute of Cooking & Kitchen Intelligence (RICKI) performed a consumer survey for the folks at Kitchen & Bath Design News. The goal was to determine what homeowners considered must-have features in both the kitchen and the bathroom, and how much they were willing to pay for those must-haves
After the results were in, the survey team divided the bathroom design responses into two tiers. Here are some of the results:
His-and-Hers vanities are the most popular bathroom feature
If there's one thing we can all agree on it's that his-and-hers vanities are a must-have if the bathroom footprint can accommodate it. Almost 70% of respondents had this on their list, and it makes sense. Not only do double sinks help when adults are getting ready for work or a special occasion, they're also handy for families with little ones who need help getting ready.
Comfort is the priority for bathroom remodels
When it came to the must-haves for kitchen remodels, function was the priority. In the bathroom, it's all about comfort.
- 48% want radiant heated flooring
- 44% desire rainfall shower heads
- 58% will install a freestanding, soaking or jetted tub
- 10% want showers with steam or sauna functions
The heavy interest in luxury bathroom features demonstrates that the trend towards spa-like bathrooms is very much alive.
Function and efficiency are also important
While it's true that comfort is a priority, results also show that homeowners are interested in function and energy efficiency.
- 49% will install water-saving shower heads and toilets
- 48% want customized storage options
- 38% are incorporating LED lights
The good news is that kitchen and bathroom product manufacturers are on it, and there is no reason for homeowners to sacrifice looks for efficiency.
Style is the overarching theme
In both the top- and second-tier lists, stylish features are embedded throughout the list. In the top-tier, we see that natural stone countertops and furniture-style vanities are both considered "must-haves" for a significant number of the respondents.
In the second-tier, we observe a preference for freestanding tubs, floating vanities and marble countertops. Thus, respondents have a very good idea of how to balance style and function in their bathroom remodels.
Bathroom spending priorities
So, where are homeowners most likely to splurge?
- 50% will splurge on the countertops. Since more than 25% of respondents want marble, and another 22% want natural stone, this comes as no surprise.
- 41% are paying for high-end shower systems.
- 40% are investing in the vanity, which is a focal point of the bathroom.
