Highland Park | Bathroom Remodel
Job Summary:
The clients for this recent Highland Park Bathroom Remodel, had one main objective: to create a soothing, spa-like bathroom environment, including a walk-in shower without a door and a luxurious bathtub. They also wanted his-and-hers vanity areas, separated by a lower sit-down area where the wife could apply make-up and get ready for special events.
The largest constraint was space, so we helped them select cabinets and finishes that would optimize storage space and yield a spacious feel to the finished bathroom remodel.
Flooring:
The clients selected tumbled marble flooring for the bath, shower, and remaining bathroom walls. Marble is light, which looks clean and spacious. Then, we used decorative accents for the borders and in selected locations to add visual interest.
The Shower:
In order to promote heat retention in an open walk-in shower, we curved the main wall. The clients selected a dual shower head configuration with four body sprays and a thermostat control which protects the water temperature from being affected by water consumption elsewhere in the home. Thermostat controls also allow you to select pre-set shower temperatures based on your preferences. The shower fixtures and faucets are all Grohe in brushed nickel finish.
The Bath:
We installed a Trajet whirlpool tub in the room surrounded with the tumbled marble tile and a granite tub deck to match the counter tops.
Cabinets and Storage:
The cabinets are a frameless custom cabinet often desired in Highland Park residences. The doors and drawer fronts are solid maple in a Shaker style, and their cup-shaped hardware compliment Shaker or Mission styles nicely. All hardware and accessories are a brushed nickel finish.
In order to enhance storage without encroaching into their bathroom space, we recessed three framed and mirrored medicine cabinets. We also built recessed niches into the side-wall, which house decorative baskets to organize the clients' more frequently used toiletries and grooming tools.
Countertops:
A complementary Costa Esmerelda granite was selected for the countertops. Granite is a good idea for bathroom countertops where hair products, perfumes, colognes and other chemicals have the ability to stain or etch softer marble. We installed a 4" backsplash and finished it with a mosaic pattern, using 2-inch tiles - and a pencil liner for dimension and interest.
Sinks:
The his-and-hers sinks are Kohler Caxton undermount sinks.
Finally, recessed overhead lighting and sconces keep shadows to a minimum. Interested in creating a spa-like bathroom of your own? Contact Kitchens & Baths Unlimited.
