Kitchen Renovation | Highland Park
Job Summary:
Transitional kitchen designs are the ideal option for homeowners who want a timeless aesthetic with all the advantages of modern appliances and technology. For this upscale transitional kitchen renovation in Highland Park, our clients wanted to enlarge their kitchen without a full addition. To accommodate this request, we removed a wall dividing the kitchen from an existing mudroom, providing an additional 100 square feet - ample room for the expansion. Our clients' goal was to allow more room for dining and entertaining, as well as ample storage space.
The homeowner also enjoys working in her kitchen space, so we designed a desk area that flows with the overall design. Another highlight of this transitional kitchen is the gorgeous butler's pantry in the corner, complete with glass cabinetry and a wine rack that is illuminated as you pass through to the dining room.
Cabinet Style and Finish:
To achieve the timeless feel desired by the clients, we used frameless cabinets with a transitional door style. The cabinets were painted with a white finish. To add warmth, the clients chose a dark Cherry wood kitchen island and matching pantry cabinets, yielding a two-tone kitchen finish.
Counter Tops:
The clients would love the look of marble countertops. However, recognizing that marble is a high-maintenance and high-risk option for families, they were wary. We found a Vermont Damby, which is a marble that is more dense and durable than its traditional counterpart. This particular marble complemented both the white cabinet finish as well as the darker Cherry wood island and pantry.
Backsplash:
To keep the look consistent between the countertops and the cabinets, we chose a white subway tile backsplash. Square tiles were laid on the diagonal above the stove top to add interest.
Flooring:
The existing home has beautiful wood flooring so we continued with the same look throughout the kitchen as it was a perfect complement and added plenty of warmth.
Appliances:
Our clients chose to go with modern stainless steel appliances, including a 48” commercial style range and hood, built in refrigerator and a Micro Drawer for a more integrated look.
