Master Bathroom Remodel | Northbrook, IL
Job Summary:
Our clients wanted to create a relaxing Northbrook master bath retreat. To accomplish this, we performed a complete remodel using neutral earth tones for a soothing and relaxing atmosphere. The built-in, remote control fireplace heightens the retreat effect and provides the ideal spot to enjoy a book or to get lost in one's thoughts while soaking in the bath. We also installed a floor heating system to keep it warm regardless of the season.
Tub Deck and Step:
The bath tub deck was constructed with a stepped-entry, yielding a more dramatic effect, setting the tub completely apart from the rest of the room. It is tiled with an 18x18 Durango marble tile. When using a real stone, like the Durango marble, the installers can soften or bullnose the edge of the tile to eliminate sharp edges. This is especially important where you will be sitting to get in and out of the tub.
Tub Splash and Tub Front:
Durango marble was used on the horizontal surfaces of the deck. It was continued up the wall to protect the splash area. To add visual interest, the homeowners selected a mosaic accent strip to be used on the vertical step surfaces and to enhance the visual interest on the walls. We added a nice cornice, or chair rail molding, at the top of the mosaic wall accent to showcase the mosaic and add dimension. It also creates a nice transition from tile to paint. Mosaic work always adds a little pizzazz.
Fixtures:
The tub is made by Bain Ultra. It is a 36” x 72” acrylic oval drop in airtub. The roman tub filler is polished nickel and made by Newport Brass.
Lighting:
Recessed light fixtures in the ceiling are controlled by a dimmer switch so the clients have complete control. A simple adjustment transforms reading lights into ambient lighting for relaxation or romance.
Flooring:
We used the same 18x18 Durango marble tile, laid on the diagonal. To add additional interest and to make the flooring a little more unique, we added a single row of the tumbled marble mosaic to define the perimeter each tile. The mosaics are ½” x ½” in a blend of complimentary colors but with just enough contrast to make them pop.
