Northbrook Master Bathroom Renovation

Website

Job Summary:

Typical of contemporary bathroom remodeling trends, our clients wanted to remove the existing tub and create a spacious spa-like shower. Because they were removing the bath - the traditional "relaxation center" - they chose materials that provided a soothing and relaxing ambiance.

Plumbing fixtures:

Notice the plural: spa showers often incorporate multiple shower heads and plumbing fixtures for a versatile, customized experience. For this shower, we used Hansgrohe fixtures in a brushed nickel finish. There is one standard fixed head, one handheld shower head on an adjustable bar and a 21-inch wide oversized head. This variety accommodates a range of shower activities - relaxing in the soft spray, rinsing shampoo from long hair, rinsing legs after shaving, or sitting on the shower bench and allowing a stream of warm water to wash over you. The fixed head is the go-to shower head to get the job done before you rush out to start your day.

Tile:

Tile work is a highlight of any luxury Northbrook bathroom remodel. To meet the goal of a soothing aesthetic, we decided on a multi-sized and random pattern porcelain tile in three different colors for a little interest. The tile sizes varied from 24x24 to 12x12, and we used 2x2 mosaic tiles on the floor (they come on 12x12 sheets). Our bathroom designers can guide and assist you in designing a tile pattern that reflects you, your tastes and your personality!

Shower enclosure:

A 3/8” thick clear frameless glass shower enclosure is a must to show off gorgeous tile. This one is 7-feet high with brushed nickel handle and hardware to match the plumbing fixtures. High-tech, once-only protective applications reduce the amount of water deposits, dirt and soap scum, and they're much easier to clean. This means no more etching, scrubbing with toxic cleaners, or unsanitary accumulation of bacteria and germs. Plus, a frameless door means no metal track at the bottom with all of those grooves that get gross and goopy.

Additional features:

Often, we use the same stone material from the countertops for the shower seat/shower curb which lends continuity and a better blending of materials.  It also provides a nice contrast and eliminates grout lines, which end up requiring more maintenance and create a place for water to pool. We gently pitch the slab so water runs off the seat after showering.
